Voici 2 photos du premier transfert d’animaux à Bornéo, vers le nouveau centre de Muara teweh. 17 gibbons ont ainsi fait le voyage en speed-boat et hydravion. Bientôt une vidéo du voyage et du nouveau centre. Tout le monde est arrivé à bon port.

À Sumatra, nous refusons de negocier avec le promoteur hôtelier australien Rick Cameron (Toutes les phases d’un programme de réhabilitation de primates restent incompatibles avec un programme de tourisme). Et aprés qu'il se soit fait expulser de l’île Marak dimanche dernier (31/01), par le chef et le conseil du village (Nagari Sungai Pinang), il tente maintenant de discréditer Kalaweit. On en oublie presque qu’il est celui qui veut y construire un hôtel de luxe. Continuez à soutenir Kalaweit en signant la pétition en ligne, qui lui sera envoyé ainsi qu’aux autorités de la province ouest de Sumatra. Merci encore de votre soutien.
At Sumatra, we reject any negociation with Rick Cameron (the australian investor). And last Sunday (31/01) he had been chased from the island by the chef and the council of the village Nagari Sungai Pinang. He tries now to attack the image of Kalaweit. Than we can easily forgot that he is the one who wants to build a luxury hotel on the island... Continue to support Kalaweit and sign the online petition. This petition will be send to him and to all the authorities of west Sumatra.
Avant tout merci à vous tous qui soutenez Kalaweit Sumatra pour protéger l’île Marak et l’avenir du projet là-bas. Vous avez été nombreux à envoyé des emails. Encore Merci. Je m’excuse aussi car je n’ai pas pu répondre à tous vos messages qui ont été très très nombreux. Maintenant que la situation est connue de tous, il est beaucoup plus difficile pour ceux qui en veulent à Kalaweit de nous attaquer physiquement. Ils devront donc le faire en justice s’ils ont les arguments nécessaires. C’est ce que nous voulions. Nous préparons aussi un communiqué de presse. Le projet continue sur l’île, comme à l’habitude, protégé par les villageois de Nagari Sungai Pinang et le conseil du village. Certains d’entre vous veulent peut-être mieux comprendre la configuration du projet Kalaweit Sumatra (les volières, les quarantaines, le camp, etc). Et aujourd’hui à Bornéo nous avons eu le bonheur de rendre la liberté à 4 macaques, tous sauvés individuellement (et mis en groupe à Kalaweit) de situations tristes. Regardez la vidéo.
I would like to thank all of you who are supporting Kalaweit Sumatra to protect Marak Island and the future of the project on it. Many of you have sent emails. Thanks again. I’m sorry if I did not manage to answer all of your messages, but I received a LOT of messages in the last few days... Now because all of you know the situation, it will be much more complicated for anyone to attack the project physically. They will have to do it in justice if they feel strong enough. It’s what we was looking for. We are making ready also a press-release. The Kalaweit Project on Marak is running as usual, protected by the village of Nagari Sungai Pinang. Some of you want may be to understand better the configuration of the Kalaweit project at Sumatra (enclosures, quarantines, camp, etc). And today at Borneo, we got the pleasure to release 4 long-tailed macaques back to the wild, all saved individually (and mixed at Kalaweit) from terrible conditions. Look at the video.
As the situation in Borneo is going much better with the end of the floods, Kalaweit have a new fight in Sumatra.

After some years of silence, the Australian businessman called “Rick Cameron” (who made his money mainly in the surfing and tourism industry in west Sumatra and Mentawai (http://www.mentawai.com), came back menacing Kalaweit on Marak island. He tries to push us to accept collaboration with him to receive tourists on the island. We do not accept that because it’s completely incompatible with a primate rehabilitation program. He tried many times in the past to push us out from Marak island, because we refused to work with him. He wants to builda hotel on it.
Après quelques années de silence, le businessman australien “Rick Cameron”, (qui travaille principalement dans l’industrie du tourisme et du surf à Mentawai et dans l’ouest de Sumatra (http://www.mentawai.com), recommence à menacer Kalaweit sur l’île Marak. Il essaye de nous obliger à accepter une collaboration avec lui pour recevoir des touristes. Nous refusons car cela est incompatible avec un programme de réhabilitation de primates. Il a déjà essayé à plusieurs reprises dans le passé de nous chasser de l’île Marak à cause de notre refus. Il veut construire un hôtel dessus.
Kalaweit works on Marak, protecting the island and the wildlife on it from loggers, hunters and hotel investors, as a wildlife sanctuary, since 2003. Kalaweit protects over of 130 gibbons and siamangs on the island, and few of them had been released. Kalaweit got an agreement from the village responsible of the island, and the local authorities. We are receiving even the support of the governor of west Sumatra who came to visit the gibbon project on Marak in the past. We also got agreement with each family who own coconut trees on the island.
Kalaweit travaille sur Marak, protégeant la floreet la faune, des bûcherons, chasseurs et investisseurs hôteliers depuis 2003. Kalaweit protège ainsi 130 gibbons et siamangs, dont certains ont déjà été relâchés sur l’île. Nous avons un protocol d’accords avec la commune dont l’île fait partie, avec le village qui la possède, et les familles qui possèdent des cocotiers sur ses plages. Nous avons aussi reçu le soutien du gouverneur de la province qui est venu visiter le projet dans le passé.
Rick Cameron claims that he rents the island from a private owner (staying not on the coast of Sumatra, and so not even in the village close to Marak). Under Indonesian law only the Republic of Indonesia can own island, not private owner. We told him that we welcome him to talk about the Marak island status in front of an Indonesian court. He rejects the idea.
Rick Cameron dit avoir loué l’île à un propriétaire privé (qui ne vit pas sur la côte de Sumatra et donc même pas dans la commune ou se trouve l’île). Dans la loi indonésienne, seul le gouvernement indonésien est propriétaire d’une île. Un privé ne peut donc pas posséder une île en Indonésie.
We are very worry because Rick Cameron still menaces us and he did push peoples to have action against the security of Kalaweit in the past. Rick Cameron is well known as a man with many issues. Just google him with the words “Rick Cameron Mentawai”, and you got many interesting articles and it’s even more interesting if you are able to read Indonesian.

Alors que nous avions attrapé un python sur l’île hier, aujourd’hui un autre python (plus gros) a été attrapé. Voici la vidéo du relâché. Les inondations favorisent la venue des pythons au projet.
Yesterday we got a python on the island, and today the team got a new one (even bigger). We released him far away. It's common for pythons to come close to the enclosures during floods.
Rescued few weeks ago (picture just after the rescue), Mickey spend more of 1 year constantly with human. We received the results from his blood sample today. He is positive for Hepatitis B (infected by human), and do not have any antibodies yet. He will have to stay alone for months, may be years.
Sauvé il y a quelques semaines (photo juste après le sauvetage), Mickey a passé un an au contact permanent des hommes. Nous avons reçu aujourd’hui les résultats de ses analyses de sang. Il est positif pour l’Hépatite B (Infecté par les humains) et n’a pas d’anticorps. Il devra rester seul pendant des mois, peut-être des années.
A new young macaque received few days ago. We are waiting to receive a adult male, to release the entire group (5 actually at the project).
We are also making ourselves ready to receive 2 new gibbons from Banjermasin. At the same time, we have a crisis on Hampapak Island : we got 2 attacks of Python in the last 2 days. The python is still around, and the team is trying to catch him, patrolling at night.
Un nouveau macaque reçu à Kalaweit il y a quelques jours. Nous sommes en attente de la réception d’un male, pour relâcher l’ensemble du groupe (5 macaques actuellement à Kalaweit).
Nous nous préparons aussi pour recevoir 2 nouveaux gibbons de Banjermasin. En même temps, nous sommes dans une situation de crise sur l’île d’Hampapak avec 2 attaques de python en 2 jours. Le serpent est toujours sur l’île et l’équipe tente de le capturer patrouillant la nuit.
2 new gibbons at Kalaweit Bornéo, one saved 15 days ago (mickey2), and the second received yesterday from the town of Banjermasin (Iki). I rescued Mickey in a hotel of Palangka Raya, after the owners comes from the south-west of Borneo, to Palangka raya, specially to give us the small gibbon (soon a video of this rescue). For Iki, Wandy managed to rescue him after a call from a listener (picture of Iki during the anesthesia; Sita is taking a blood sample).
Deux nouveaux gibbons reçus à Bornéo, dont un sauvé il y a 15 jours (Mickey2), et le second reçu hier de la ville de Banjermasin (Iki). J’ai reçu Mickey dans un hôtel de Palangka Raya, après que ses propriétaires soient venus spécialement du sud de Bornéo pour nous le donner(bientôt une vidéo de la scène). Et c’est Wandy qui a récupéré Iki après l’appel d’un auditeur (photo de Iki anesthésié alors que Sita lui fait une prise de sang).
