Since the creation of the Hampapak Reserve by Kalaweit in collaboration with One Voice, no logging activities have been reported. But today, during a trek (which should be a pleasure...) I found this tree cut done by loggers… This tree has been cut very recently (in the middle of the reserve) and the log has already been extracted from the forest, probably when the forest was flooded. This tree is a clear message to Kalaweit…and we have to take action now. An hour after I found the tree I held a crisis meeting with the staff. First goal: we have to find the name of who did this!
Kalaweit maintain very good relations with the local communities (creation of school, annual donations, medical and education costs paid by Kalaweit) to make sure things like that do not happen… This time Kalaweit has to take strong action.
I will let you know what happens next.

That's right, illegal logging is terrible for the planet! In July, the European Union will meet and have to decide whether or not to close the legal loophole that currently authorizes the importation of illegaly logged trees into the EU. Greenpeace International has a petition on its website to make pressure on the EU to close the legal loophole:
